I can’t log onto Vivaldi.Social. And that’s okay!

For about a week, I haven’t been able to log into Vivaldi.Social. I get this error message.

I tried several things to troubleshoot it. I signed out of Vivaldi and back in. I tried signing in to Vivaldi.Social from a different browser. I tried signing in from a Windows machine, a Linux machine and from a Chromebook. I got the same error message every time.

For a while, I really missed it. I did really enjoy posting on Vivaldi.Social and I felt like I was part of a community. Then I discovered that I could still get my Mastodon fix, even without an account.

Go to the domain of any Mastodon instance. Usually you’ll see the trending toots displayed by default. If not, click on the “# Explore” link on the right, and you’ll see the top trending toots as known on that particular instance. A lot of those toots will be the same no matter which instance you drop in on, but you’ll actually see some variety in the top toots from server to server, which I find particularly interesting.

Of course, the downside is I can’t favorite or reply to anyone and I don’t have my filters that I carefully curated, but on the other hand, I’m certainly a lot more private. this way! I’ve actually come to enjoy the randomness of the feed, and if there’s too much drama going on, I take it as my sign to go read a book instead of social media.

    1. No. Not really. I haven’t seen anyone else post with that same issue, so the problem must be specific to my account. Maybe a corrupted flag or something in the database. I’m happy anyway. I think this might actually be my model for social media for the time-being. And maybe it’ll be resolved in the future. ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. Oh my gosh. I’m sure Jon S. von Tetzchner has a lot to do. I wouldn’t want to bother him with my issue. I’m sure it’ll get ironed out at some point. But thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Oh! Thank you, Jane! I may just do that!

Honestly, the whole Vivaldi community is just the best!
